Ullapool Harbour Trust continues to operate during the Covid-19 pandemic; we are supporting vital transport links to the Western Isles and handling routine fishing and commercial traffic. Harbour services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we can be contacted by phone, email and VHF. We are observing strict social distancing and hygiene measures.
The ferry is now running to the summer timetable with an additional Sunday morning voyage making twenty return sailings every seven days. Passenger numbers are limited to 330 per sailing and advance booking is mandatory for all travellers.
Whitefish landings totalled 9,100 boxes from eight Scottish trawl and two Anglo long-line landings. The Scottish lads continue to work at Rockall with mixed results. Haddocks are difficult to catch on the bank as the shallower grounds are still covered in jellyfish. Some skippers are fishing the steep east edge of the bank for monkfish and ling. Edge fishing is very rewarding in terms of catches but keeping the gear on the bottom and not snagging on rocks and pinnacles is the challenge.
Shellfish landings were restricted to the prawn trawler Nereus landing a lorry-load of locally caught packaged frozen-at-sea prawns ready for export together with the efforts of the local fleet.
Non-fishing activity was fairly busy. The MCA tug Ievoli Black called in for fuel, survey vessel Athenia visited for layovers, Tanera landing craft Cromarty Queen was in for a load of timber and fish-farm support vessels Ronjafisk, Viking Junior and Aqua Mist called for fuel, crew change and layover respectively.
