Harbour News

The harbour has been fairly quiet over the past fortnight with 21 arrivals for the period.

Whitefish landings totaled 4000 boxes from 3 Scottish and 3 Spanish vessels.  The Scottish twin-riggers Audacious and Adventurer landed excellent shots of quality monkfish which fetched top prices at market.  The Spanish freezer vessel Eder Sands landed the equivalent live weight of 45 tonnes of processed monkfish, whilst the freshers Jiminy and L’Etel landed good shots of mixed fish all caught on the shelf edge.  This takes the running total number of boxes of whitefish landed in Ullapool this year to over 100,000 slightly down on this time last year due to the lack of squid landings.

The shellfish fleet had mixed fortunes; the crabbers are seeing good catches and improving prices, the scalloper Rois Mhairi made 2 very good landings with 358 bags of quality shells caught in the North Minch, whilst the local prawn fleet continues to struggle with lack of prawns on the grounds.

Non fishing traffic saw the SMIT naval support fleet tie up nightly, the Marine Scotland inshore research vessel Alba Na Mara in for shelter and the specialist luxury cruise ship Hebridean Princess in for the last scheduled call of the year.

Ullapool Harbour Trustees as per good governance guidelines carried out Trustee interviews on Saturday.  The appointing panel interviewed candidates to assess their qualifications, experience, knowledge and motivation with an overall score being assigned to each interviewee.  Many thanks to the appointing panel and to all those that applied for giving up their time, the new members will take up office on the 1st December at which time a full list of Trustees will be published in the Ullapool News.
