Tall Ships Training & Adventure

Tall Ship Adventures

Our relationship with Tall Ships started when the harbour hosted sixteen competing vessels during the 2011 Tall Ships Race.  The weekend was a great success; an estimated 10,000 visitors enjoyed on-board and street ceilidhs, marquee dances, barbecues, day sails, island cruises, music and performances by Ullapool & District Pipe Band.  Lasting friendships were established and since then Ullapool has enjoyed subsequent return visits annually from Tall Ship Wylde Swan.  Other beautiful Tall Ships including Statsraad Lehmkuhl, Christian Radich, Oosterschelde and Atlantis have also been made welcome over the years.  Tall Ship Tecla also returns annually and undertakes fantastic sailing adventures to Iceland, Greenland and other northern islands from Ullapool.  The sight of these sturdy, beautifully crafted vessels sailing into and out of our harbour is truly breathtaking.

2018

This year, starting 22nd August Wylde Swan is undertaking a range of 3 and 5-day adventure voyages from Ullapool through the Western Isles and St Kilda.  For a full list of Ullapool-related adventures, please visit the Events section of our website or see http://wyldeswan.com/voyages/all/

Tall Ship Tecla returns in April and spends the entire season making adventure voyages through the northern hemisphere using Ullapool as base port.  It’s really worthwhile checking out their 2018 schedule to see whether you can fit in a voyage to Iceland or Greenland.  See our website Events or http://wyldeswan.com/voyages/all/

Training

Since 2011 the Trust has been proud to sponsor sail training adventure opportunities to our local High School students and to date over 250 local children have experienced the thrill of life on board a Tall Ship on day sail trips (younger students) and longer sail training adventures for older students. The experience for many has proved life enhancing with a number going on to sail full time or return to sailing through their holidays. Funds are raised primarily through sales of our Harbour Calendar which has proved hugely popular, featuring images from our extraordinarily beautiful local area.
